On Embeddability into a Semidirect Product of a Band by a Group

An example of anE-unitary regular semigroup is presented which is not embeddable into a semidirect product of a band by a group. This solves an embeddability problem raised by M. B. Szendrei in [Proc. Roy. Soc. Edinburgh106(A) (1987), 89–102].
