Selbergʹs symmetry formula

This article discusses the structure of Selbergʹs elementary proof of his ‘Symmetry Formula’ ([7]) in terms of analytic number theory. In particular, we use a measure-theoretic framework to examine how each step of the elementary argument encodes analytic information about σ(s) and related functions.
