Abstract
Neutron-induced radionuclides in soil samples from the JCO campus were measured by non-destructive γ-ray spectrometry. 24Na,59Fe,60Co and 140La etc., all of which were produced by (n, γ) reaction, were detected in the soil collected within 30–50 m of the precipitation tank. Meanwhile, the fast neutron product, 54Mn, produced by (n,p) reaction, was detected only in 5 samples collected at points close to the precipitation tank. 46Sc, produced both by thermal and fast neutrons from 45Sc and 46Ti, was detected in most of the samples from the area within 70 m. A volatile fission product, 131I, was also detected in most samples.
