Abstract :
Centre, Brisbane, hosted and sponsored by the School of Psychology of the University of Queensland. A total of 142 scientific papers were presented in four parallel sessions of talks, with 56 of the papers presented by student speakers. The topics covered the range of experimental psychology including papers on visual and auditory perception, attention, language and language processing, memory, learning, reasoning, decision making and individual differences. Among the 165 attendees who registered for the conference were 64 honours and postgraduate students. Delegates from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Italy, the UK and the USA presented. Best paper awards were given to one student presented in each conference stream. The award winners were John Greenwood, Australian National University for his presentation ‘An oblique effect for transparent-motion detection and its relation to neural models’, Ann Rémond, Macquarie Centre for Cognitive Science, for her presentation ‘Understanding and remembering action pictures: Processing differences between nouns and verbs’, Saskia Kohnen, Macquarie Centre for Cognitive Science, for her presentation ‘Predicting generalisation in the training of irregular word spelling: Treating lexical spelling deficits in a child with mixed dysgraphia’, and a shared award went to Annette Koy, University of Queensland, for her presentation, ‘Training selective use of a complex categorisation strategy ‘ and to Kirin Hilliar, University of New South Wales, for his presentation ‘Inhibition deficits: Their role in problem gambling among the elderly’.
