Abstract :
The Society of Australasian Social psychologists’ meeting was held at Te Papa Tongarewa, the Museum of
New Zealand, Wellington, New Zealand, and was enthusiastically attended by 150 delegates from Australia,
New Zealand, USA, Europe and Asia. One hundred and fifty four presentations were organised into 20
symposia and thematic sessions. In addition, the pre-conference workshops were attended by 60 delegates.
These workshops included analytic sessions hosted by Associate professor Paul Jose (VUW) and Professor
David Kenny (University of Connecticut), teaching social psychology hosted by Marc Wilson (VUW), and
action research presented by Professor Ian Lubek (University of Guelph).
Diverse keynote addresses were presented by Professor Kim Sterelny (dual ‘citizenship’ at VUW and
Australian National University) speaking on the topic of evolutionary psychology/philosophy, Professor
Steven Sherman (Indiana University) on attentional processes in stereotype formation, and Professor Garth
Fletcher (University of Canterbury) on intimate relationships, while association president Associate
Professor Michael Platow presented the concluding presentation summarising his research on the procedural
justice of voice.
