Optical Properties of an Azobenzene Based Octupolar Near-IR Dye

Based on an azobenzene derived octupolar scaffold, a trigonally symmetric near-IR dye 4 ((lambda)max 995 nm) has been prepared from common starting materials. The dye showed a pH dependent as well as a solvent dependent absorption behavior.
