Abstract :
A new type of neptunyl(VI) hydroxide (alpha)-NpO2(OH)2 I which is topologically similar to (alpha)-UO2(OH)2 has been synthesized from the thermal decomposition of the orthorhombic type NpO2(OH)2·H2O II. The powder X-ray diffraction patterns and 237Np Mossbauer spectra have shown that properties of (alpha)-NpO2(OH)2 I are different from those of the reported (beta)-NpO2(OH)2 III, which is similar to (beta)-UO2(OH)2.
