Abstract :
Despite Florence Nightingaleʹs early influence on nursing in Japan, sociocultural and geopolitical barriers have hindered the establishment of professional nursing in this country. The opportunity for reform and a new vision for Japanese nursing in the next millenium are now within the reach of Japanese nurses.
