Emerging computer and information systems technologies portend great benefit to enable nursing to fulfill its social contract. It is the prerogative and responsibility of nursing to design, develop, or evaluate emerging technologies, to reengineer practice to capitalize on them, and to reconceptualize education to prepare nurses to use them.
