Abstract
The findings obtained from sampling of chlorine aromatics by mechanical separation of the dust phase in the raw gas of waste incineration plants demonstrate that above about 200°C, a formation preferentially of PCDD and chlorophenoles, and to a lesser extent of PCDF of chlorobenzenes takes place.
Formation is mainly caused by the fine dust fraction. The carbon content in the fly ash plays a minor role.
From the comparison of these findings with earlier balancing experiments at an ESP a comparable formation mechanism can be suggested. Up to now this mechanism is not well understood. A threshold temperature for all dedusting operations in the raw gas of municipal solid waste incineration plants of a maximum of 200°C is recommended.
