Abstract :
This research aims to study the relation between defense mechanisms and the quality of
life of the students of the universities of Tehran. A sample of 428 students (including 202 male
and 226 female ones) are selected using multistage random sampling method. The instruments
used in this research are defense style and quality of life questionnaire. The results show that
mature defense and neurotic mechanisms are related positively and significantly with the quality
of life. Moreover, there is a significant negative relation between immature defense mechanism
and quality of life. The results off multivariate regression analysis show that only immature
defense mechanism from all defense mechanisms is able to predict quality of life.
