Abstract :
Motion of nonspherical particles in shear flows near solid surfaces is affected by particle-wall
hydrodynamic viscous forces and torques [1-3]. These interactions, as well as trajectories of prolate
spheroidal particles in a simple shear of a rate s near a wall are calculated using a variant of the
boundary integral equation method, combined with the reciprocal theorem. Particle motion is shown
to be governed by its aspect ratio ralc and the dimensionless relaxation time -r=4npJ.LSc2/3, where
