Assessment of the impact of the E2P3 project on the uptake of pollution prevention in Ecuador

The assessment identified and evaluated three types of impacts from the Ecuador Environmental Pollution Prevention Project (E2P3) plant level demonstrations, executed from 1994–1997. These are the extent to which companies that participated in the demonstration sustained their pollution prevention (PP)/cleaner production (CP) efforts beyond the project; the extent to which the results from the demonstration projects stimulated other companies in the same sub-sector to implement PP measures and the extent to which the demonstration stimulated industry associations and governments to undertake policy and programme changes. The overall conclusions reached were that all demonstration companies, some more than others, sustained their PP efforts; that there was appreciable motivation and PP implementation among the 28 group audit companies and that there was no evidence of specific policy recommendations influenced by the results of the company demonstrations.
