Agricultural restructuring and integrated rural development in Estonia

This paper provides an analysis of rural change in the Baltic state of Estonia, following its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Particular attention is paid to the construction of rurality, the implementation of land reform, the privatisation of collective and state farms, and alternative sources of income available for inhabitants of rural areas. It argues that an integrated approach to rural development offers the most desirable scenario for the future economic vitality of rural areas.
