Long-term variability of mesozooplankton in the Central Baltic Sea

Mesozooplankton data were collected from 1960 to 1997 three times per year in the Central Baltic Sea (Latvian Economic Zone). Interannual variability of the biomass of different species was related to climate variability using a multivariate regression model. The results suggest that in the Central Baltic Sea the interannual variability during spring of zooplankton species such as Acartia spp., Evadne nordmanni, Podon spp., Syncheata spp., and Temora longicornis is controlled by the sea surface temperature during spring.
