Abstract :
Many urban regions have to cope with increasing road traffic and the concomitant dispersion of regional facilities. The solutions offered thus far have been largely unsuccessful because of their disregard for the complexity of the spatial context. This paper considers how the concept of relative location value based on accessibility could be used to include the spatial context in policy. After a review of the theory, some spatial proposals for the Amsterdam urban region are analyzed. The results show how the concept of relative location value can be applied to urban regional design.
