Urban and rural aerosol particle optical properties

Aerosol particle optical properties have been studied over urban (Manchester) and rural (Donna Nook) areas, and the results showed that the absorption of aerosol particles to solar radiation was significant according to the filter sample results and those from Slingo-Schrecker model. The imaginary parts of the complex refractive index of the aerosol particles were over 0.1 in urban area and around 0.068 in rural site. The heating rates were about 2.2 K d−1 over an urban area and 1.50 K d−1 over a rural area, respectively.
