Abstract :
Under the conditions of Junge aerosol spectral distribution, parameterized formulas governing the nucleation scavenging efficiency of aerosol particles are derived. The analytical solutions are consistent with the numerical results within some ranges. Then, a numerical model of an ascending air parcel with the entrainment is used to further study the physicochemical factors determining the nucleation scavenging efficiencies of continental and maritime aerosols. The results show that in addition to the updraft velocity of the air parcel and total aerosol mass, the efficiency is also dependent on such physicochemical factors as the spectral distribution and chemical composition of aerosols, entrainment of the ascending air parcel, the accommodation coefficient of water vapor condensation and cloud-base temperature.
