Abstract
Trace element concentrations and ratios were used to identify the continental origins of pollution aerosol at Dye 3, Greenland. Ratios of As, Se, noncrustal V, and Zn to Sb were compared with regional signatures for Eurasia and the eastern United States. The results show that both Eastern North America and Europe contribute to pollution aerosol at Dye 3. A major episode in April, 1989, displayed ratios more characteristic of a European origin. Air mass back trajectories were generally consistent with pollution aerosol chemistry. However, in cases where trajectories were ambiguous, the aerosol chemistry imposed significant constraints on potential source areas.
