Abstract :
Wet plumes become visible when vapour condenses. In such a situation visible plumes may create some concerns in the population. A method to reduce the occurrence and the size of visible plumes is to increase the stack emission temperature.
The mathematical model presented by Janicke and Janicke (Atmos. Environ. 35 (5) (2001) 887), using a revised entrainment formulation, was implemented in a computer code to deal with sequential records of meteorological conditions.
The predictions of this model have been compared with experimental data giving satisfactory results. Then the model has been used for simulating the occurrence and the size of visible plumes from a stack with a scrubber and for three different emission temperatures
