Abstract :
This paper examines trends and dependencies between rainfall and agriculture in the Kassala Province, Eastern Sudan from 1960 to 1990. Correlation analysis between production and yield of sorghum, millet and sesame and various rainfall parameters was conducted. Time series for annual rainfall and production and yield of sorghum, millet and sesame were plotted. The conclusions were that production was increasing and the yields were diminishing. There was no evidence of soil loss, but the amount of rainfall from 1960 to 1990 was decreasing and there were high correlations between rainfall and sorghum yield (r= 0•7), which indicated that the annual yields were most dependent on climate.
