Abstract
Ozone decomposition kinetics was determined for surface water in batch and continuous flow reactors. Reaction rates in the continuous flow experiments were higher than those determined from batch experiments. The difference was attributed to a variable instantaneous ozone demand. Ozone reaction in batch experiments was described with the n-th order kinetics. The order of reaction (with respect to ozone concentration) varied from 0.4 to 2 depending on the ozone dose transferred to water before each batch test. Specific reaction rate was proposed as a measurable parameter characterizing transformations of ozone-reactive compounds. The changes in reaction order suggested an increase of the reactivity of the products of ozonation.
