Abstract :
Sewage sludge recycling has become one of the predominant problems of the water industry. Not all types of sewage sludges are able to be recycled to farm land or into composting processes. Pulverised fuel ash is used as a major ingredient in a product called Rhenipal which is used to stabilise sewage sludge for recycling into a material for land reclamation, as a soil conditioner, as cover material for landfill and as a landfill engineering material. This article deals with the results achieved when applying Rhenipal in a post-stabilisation process to prepare landfill engineering material. The process is currently developed further and can be operated in a pre-stabilisation mode, which will further improve the economical results shown for the post-stabilisation method in this paper.
