A single precursor approach to new DNA cleaving and crosslinking agents

It is demonstrated that aryl diamine 1, designed after a d(A•T) specific minor groove binding agent, can serve as a precursor for the synthesis of two DNA cleaving (bisdiazonium 2 and bisazoester 5) and one crosslinking (bisazide 7) agents and, to this end, the present strategy is introduced as a convergent approach for the development of DNA targeted anticancer drugs.
