Abstract :
12α-Trifluoromethyl-hydroartemisinin 4 was selectively prepared from the reaction of artemisinin 1 with TMSCF3 in good yields. The α configuration of the CF3 substituent was established by NMR experiments. Compound 4 exhibits a better antimalarial activity against Plasmodium vinckei in mice, than artemisinin.
