The synthesis of (R)-1-(2-oxocyclopentyliden)-2-alkanols and the (S)-forms, and their bio-antimutagenic activity against UV-induced Escherichia coli WP2 B/r Trp−

(R)-1-(2-oxocyclopentyliden)-2-alkanols (1r-a and 1r-b) and the (S)-forms, 1s-a and 1s-b, were enantiomerically synthesized from (R)-2-[(R)-O-MEMmandelyloxy]alkanals (6r-a and 6r-b and the (S)-alkanals, 6s-a and 6s-b. The (R)-isomers (1r-a and 1r-b) showed bio-antimutagenic acitivity against UV-induced Escherichia coli WP2 B/r Trp−
