Assessment of the steric tolerance of the P sector in the catalytic site of porcine liver esterase

Porcine liver esterase catalyzes the hydrolysis of simple esters capable of hydrogen bonding more rapidly than the reaction for small hydrophobic acetates. The result can be understood in terms of the high steric tolerance of the P sector in the catalytic site.
