Abstract :
Several substituted 7H-pyrido[4,3-c]carbazoles were synthesized from the natural product mukonal and tested for inhibition of HIV replication in H9 lymphocytes. 5-Methoxy-7-methyl-7H-pyrido[4,3-c]carbazole (7) had an EC50 value of 0.0054 μg/mL and the highest therapeutic index (TI = 503) in the series.
