Abstract
Compounds designed to mimic the tryptophan synthase α subunit reactive intermediate were found to be potent inhibitors of the enzyme. These compounds are herbicidal and the herbicidal mode of action was demonstrated to be due to disruption of trytophan biosynthesis.
