Abstract :
Antennas with dual linear slant polarization over a wide band are necessary for modern personal communication base-station applications. A traveling-wave subarray is used to generate wide-band dual slant 45(degree) polarization. The antenna exhibits well-defined radiation patterns over a bandwidth of 1.7 to 2.7 GHz and has an impedance bandwidth of 3:1 for <1.5 voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), the worst case isolation between polarizations is 28 dB. In addition, the antenna exhibits, 37(degree) half power beamwidth, 35 dB on-axis cross polarization, and 23 dB front-to-back ratio with 20-dB worst case sidelobes, at 2 GHz. A theoretical basis for the operation of the array is presented which shows that its operation can be readily extended to permit the generation of dual slant polarization with any slant angle.
