Abstract :
The aim of this study was to determine energy use efficiency and CO2 emission in major crop production of Kermanshah province, such as wheat, barley, Chick pea, sugar beet, maize, sunflower, and alfalfa. Data was collected applying questionnaires via face to face interviews with 350 farmers (50 farmers for each crop) in 2012. Results showed total energy input in sugar beet, alfalfa, Rainfed wheat, Rainfed barley, chickpea, maize, and sunflower were 49517,49689,14255, 12416,4826, 50485 and 26974 MJ/ha, respectively. Output energy in these crops were 1095360,240072, 56162, 43656, 14663, 134946, 64834, and MJ/ha. Accordingly, Energy use efficiency was 22.12 for sugar beet, 4.8 for alfalfa, 3.8 for Rainfed wheat, 3.5 for Rainfed barley, 3.04 for chickpea, 2.7 for maize and 2.4 for sunflower. In this study the highest shear of input energy was related to diesel fuel in often agroecosystems. Co2 emission from fuel consumed for wheat, barley, Chick pea, sugar beet, maize, sunflower, and alfalfa were 184, 267,143, 424, 419, 208, and 875 Kg/ha respectively. Efficient uses of energy and diesel fuel in addition to reduce of energy use, increased the agroecosystems sustainability, and reduce the greenhouse gas emission and environmental crises in agriculture sector.
