Abstract :
In this study, the anticipated performance index (API) of various plant species in green belt of Isfahan, Iran was evaluated. Biochemical and physiological parameters of plant leaves such as relative water content, ascorbic acid content, total chlorophyll content and pH of leaf extraction were measured to estimate the air pollution tolerance index of individual plant. Based on the values of air pollution tolerance index (APTI) and other indices like economical, social and biological factors, anticipated performance index (API) was calculated. Tolerent plant species to air pollution were identified based on the API values. Study showed that air pollution tolerance index in identifying resistant species to air pollution is more appropriate than anticipated performance index in semi-arid areas like Isfahan. It has been noted that API is beneficial too, when it is calibrated for arid and semi-arid areas.
