Abstract :
Background High-risk types of HPV are the primary cause of cervical cancer. Objectives This article reports HPV screening and diagnosis from a survey evaluating community-based physicians’ screening, testing, and clinical practices for sexually transmitted diseases. Methods Surveys mailed to physicians (n = 7,300) obtained information on patients they screen for HPV and cases of HPV diagnosed. Results/conclusions Seventy percent (70%) of the physicians returned completed surveys. HPV screening was most frequently conducted in female patients by obstetrician/gynecologists and family practice physicians.
