Abstract :
The following commentary details results of a survey of internal medicine program directors aimed at gauging their reactions to proposed policy changes effecting graduate medical education. A similar survey was conducted by the Association of Professors of Medicine (APM) and the Association of American Medical Collegeʹs Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH). The preliminary results of the APM-COTH effort—aimed at gathering institutional data on “rightsizing” internal medicine residencies—reinforce the data presented below. APM and COTH plan to develop case studies highlighting institutional successes at reconfiguring training programs and will share these studies with the community as they become available. For a copy of the preliminary results of the APM-COTH effort, please contact the APM office at (202) 857-1158 or APM1CDIM@aol.com.
