The panacea for cardiovascular diseases: The role of statins in the management of heart failure

The data obtained from retrospective studies have indicated that patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) on statin treatment have good cardiovascular outcomes, in both ischemic and nonischemic dilated cardiomyopathy. There is an ongoing debate about whether the effects of statins on ubiquinone and cholesterol levels might have a negative impact in patients with CHF. We believe that 3 large scale ongoing randomized clinical trials (the GISSI-HF, CORONA and UNIVERSE) will come to end the debate over the safety and efficacy of statin treatment in patients with CHF.
