Adapting coordinates

In this paper, we extend and generalize some work by Edo and Vénéreau concerning the question how to recognize coordinates over a commutative ring. More precisely, it is shown that it is often sufficient to look at quotients and localizations of the given ring, for which the question becomes more tractable.
