On the Betti numbers of Cohen-Macaulay modules Original Research Article

Let M be a finitely generated Cohen-Macaulay over a Noetherian regular local ring (R, m). In this paper a sharp upper bound is given for the first Betti of M in terms of its codimension, multiplicity and 0th Betti number.
