Abstract :
Hospitals seeking improved and affordable supplemental staffing have used a variety of new strategies designed to reduce cost and improve quality—or to use an investing concept, improve their return on investment (ROI). A popular trend has been the introduction of agency-sponsored staffing models: single vendor, vendor-on-site, preferred provider, etc. These models first appeared several years ago. Today, variations of these models proliferate among the staffing industry. For many hospitals, they have become the primary, if not only, supplemental staffing resource. Unfortunately, staffing agencies provide a marginal ROI and limited hospital control over cost and quality.
