Abstract
In 2005, Banner Estrella Medical Center (BEMC), the newest facility of Banner Health, a large multihospital system, opened as the hospital of the future. BEMC featured evidence-based architecture that supports healing and patient-family integration, computerized documentation systems, state-of-the-art communication technology, and a revitalized team nursing approach to deliver patient care in the face of a severe registered nurse (RN) shortage.1
