Abstract
For a square matrix A, the difference equation yk+1=ykA generates a sequence of vectors y0,y1,… The long run behavior of this sequence is described in terms of a group obtained from A,A2…. The results are given in a topological semigroup setting so they can also be applied to more general difference equations.
