Abstract :
In the present research work an attempt has been made to analyse the spatial patterns of
employment rate, regional variations in the level of development and the causal relationship
between status of employment (dependent variable) and selected variables of regional
development (independent variables) among the twenty four blocks of Gaya district of Bihar.
The block boundary has been considered as the smallest unit of study. The study is based on
secondary sources of data collected from Directorate of Statistics and Evaluation (Forecast
Section), Patna and Office of the Director of Census Operation, Govt. of Bihar, Patna for
the years 2001 and 2005.
The overall analysis of the study reveals that there is a positive relationship between the
employment rate and level of regional development among all the twenty four blocks of
the Gaya district. The seven blocks witnessed the high level of employment rate and regional
development and they make four remarkable regions in the southern, south-eastern, north-eastern
and south-western parts of the district, while, nine blocks experienced the medium level, situated
in the south-central, north-eastern, north-western and south-western parts of the district
respectively. However, the remaining north-central and south-western blocks have recorded both
the low level of employment rate and regional development in the study area.
