Abstract
In this paper, a high frequency fly-back power converter using coreless PCB step-down for DC/DC applications is presented. In addition, this research works in the design of the fly-back DC/DC converter, operating in the MHz frequency region, by employing a novel coreless PCB transformer. As the operating frequency increases the size of passive components such as capacitors, inductors and transformers are reduced. In this circuit, in order to improve energy efficiency and power level of the converter, suitable switching elements with high power dissipation level in the essential current/voltage range are selected. The fly-back DC/DC converter employs zero voltage switching (ZVS) technique to minimize switching losses. The measurement of the input and output displays energy efficiency in the range of 78%. This paper represents the possibility of using the coreless PCB transformer for power transfer applications with high energy efficiency.
