Morphological variations among Calamus subinermis provenances in Sabah, Malaysia

Morphological variations for eight provenances of Calamus subinermis were investigated at Lungmanis Forest Reserve, Sandakan, Sabah. Stem diameter and internode length showed high provenance, family and individual heritability values as compared to other traits. The thornless leaf sheaths trait had a low heritability value and highly correlated with stem diameter. Thornless leaf sheaths and multiple aerial stems were highly expressed in Kuala Penyu (KP) and Kota Belud (KBE) provenances.
