Abstract :
Kombucha tea is a miraculous drink prepared by the microbial consortium of yeasts and bacteria. This has been used for centuries as a health tonic. Its use may be dated back to 220 BC, as kargasok tea, that originated in Kargasok, Russia. Since then it has spread to Japan and Germany and is now popular in U.S.A., Europe and even Asia. The benefits of the tea range from curing blood pressure, arthritis, bronchitis, skin diseases and, above all, it has anti-cancerous properties. Like all conventional medicines it is popular for its unparalleled benefits and at the same time suffers lot of skepticism and criticism from the scientific community. Sporadic information is available regarding its microbiological and biochemical components.
