Synthesis and crystal structure of a 1D double-chain polyoxometalatebased complex {[Ba(DMSO)3(H2O)3][C5H6N]PW12O40·DMSO·2H2O}n

A novel alkaline earth polyoxometalate-based complex, {[Ba(DMSO)3(H2O)3][C5H6N]PW12O40·DMSO·2H2O}n (DMSO ¼ Dimethyl sulfoxide), has been synthesized from BaCl2·2H2O, DMSO and a-H3PW12O40·nH2O. Colorless octahedral crystals of the title compound are crystallized from acetonitrile and water mixture. The result of the X-ray crystallography analysis exhibits that two parallel chains are both connected through W–Ot–Ba link and strong interaction exists between the heteropolyanions and the coordination cations in solid state. q 2003 Elsevier B.V.
