Abstract
This paper discusses the education and training of cataloguing
students in South Africa at a distance education institution
where the focus is on career-specific training. The position of the cataloguing
course in the curriculum and the content of the course are explained.
The utilization of media and technologies in offering the course,
and anticipated changes and possible future developments are discussed
