Can thestoryofevolvingFederalReservebeliefsin The ConquestofAmericanInflation simultaneouslyexplaintheGreatInflationandtheforecastspublishedintheGreenbook duringthattime?IfSargentiscorrectthenevolvingbeliefsshouldbereflectednotonly in policyoutcomesbutalsoinGreenbookforecasts.Inthispapertheyare.By conditioningontheGreenbook,itisshowthatbothinflationoutcomesandGreenbook forecasts canberationalisedbyevolvingbeliefs.Theresultsimproveonrecentempirical evidencethathasbeencriticisedforrelyingonunrealisticbeliefsthatproduceforecasts inconsistentwiththeGreenbook
