The maincross-sectionalandtime-seriespropertiesofstate-levelgrossandnetworker flows, wages,andrentsarecharacterizedusingmicro-datafromtheU.S.Census.A dynamicgeneralequilibriummodelofworkermigrationisintroducedtoexplainthe stylizedfacts.Inthemodel,alocationmayexperiencesimultaneousinflowsand outflowsofworkers.Recentmigrantschoosetomigratemoreoftenthanincumbent workers.Thus,locationsthatattracthighnumbersofmigrantsalsotendtoexperience high outflowrates.Thispatternisarobustfeatureofthedataandcannotbeexplained by modelsofnetflowsonly.
