Abstract :
Financialcrisesinemergingmarketstriggerasignificantreallocationoflaboras exchangeratedepreciationsandinterestrateincreasescauserelativepricestochange drastically.HouseholdsurveydataforMexicorevealthatindividualswhoswitched industryoroccupationduringthe1994–1995crisislostabout10%oftheirhourly earningsonaveragecomparedtosimilarworkerswhodidnotmove.Thissuggeststhat many workersbecamelessproductiveintheprocessofmigratingtodifferenteconomic activities.Theseproductivitylosses,inturn,canexplainabout40%oftheobservedfall in TFPinMexicoin1995
