Abstract :
Abnormalities of the genital tract of Awassi ewes, were studied, by examining 313 tracts from polyparous (PO) and 729 tracts from primiparous (PR) ewes, in south of Iran, from May 2000 to June 2001. Overall, pregnancy was detected in 21.4% of the tracts. Embryo migration was identified in 9% of gravid uteri. Ovarian activity was recorded in 69.6% of ewes. The right ovary was more active than the left (40.3% versus 29.3%). A total of 269 tracts (25.8%) had lesions (PO: 17%; PR: 8.2%). The highest rates of abnormality were in the ovaries (20.1%), followed by ones in the oviducts (4.6%) and the uteri (1.2%). Predominant lesions in ovaries were ovarobursal adhesions (11.5%) and parovarian cysts (7.6%). The most common lesions in oviducts were adhesions (3.3%) and hydrosalpinx (1.1%). Predominant uterine disorders were hydrometra (0.3%). © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
